Don't let anyone tell you it costs thousands of dollars for a website. It doesn't! The truth is you can be up and running with a website in 20 minutes for about $100 give or take for your first year (websites are usually paid by the year or by the month).
So why than are websites so god-awful expensive? It's the cost of your graphics artist / programmer! There are litterally thousands of people out there willing to create a 'masterpiece' for you... some promise the world for only $500, others would have you believe you would be lost without them and that their minimum charge is at least five-grand!
It is enough to make me ill, how about you?
If you are like me when I first started into this crazy world of web design and you want to know how to make your own do-it-yourself website you should start with my primer:
**The three components of a website -- a primer on website construction
**Please note. There are situations when you will need a developer, such as if your website will have a content database and managment system. If you are looking for a custom solution that doesnt fit neatly into a template, then a designer may be appropriate for your project. This article is geared toward those who want to understand the process so they can do it themselves and save some money.
